About the Authors of

Francis G. Serio, DMD, MS, MBA, is Professor and Chairmen of the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Sciences at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He received his BA from The Johns Hopkins University, his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania, MS and Certificate in Periodontics from the University of Maryland, and MBA from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Serio has been involved in education, research, and international volunteer activities since 1981. He has published 35 journal articles, 4 books, several book chapters, and numerous abstracts. He has lectured throughout the United States and 6 other countries on various aspects of periodontics. He is a Fellow of the Amercan College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Academy of Dentistry International.

Charles E. Hawley, DDS, PhD, is currently Clinical Professor, Department of Periodontology, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he is engaged in clinical instruction in the post-graduate program in periodontology. He received his BS degree from The Johns Hopkins University, his DDS from the University of Pennsylvania, his Certificate in Periodontics and a masters degree from the University of Illinois, and his PhD from the University of Maryland.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
