From the Preface to
Pocket Atlas of Oral Diseases
Second Edition

Seven years have passed since publication of the first edition of the Pocket Atlas of Oral Diseases, and its enthusiastic acceptance by dentists, hygienists, physicians, and medical and dental students has exceeded all expectations. For the second edition, the orientation remains unchanged. However, the book now contains 31 new topics and over 100 additional color plates. The text has been revised and updated to keep pace with the latest concepts in oral medicine.

The classification of the material is based on the morphological presentation and the site at which the clinician first sees the lesions at examination. The book rigorously follows a clinical orientation, allowing fast diagnosis of the most common oral diseases using differential diagnostic considerations. Each entity is provided with a representative color plate and a brief and concise description of the definition, etiology, clinical features, differential diagnosis, laboratory tests, and directions on treatment.

It is hoped that this atlas will serve as a quick chairside clinical guide for the dentist, hygienist, dental and medical student, for the family practitioner, dermatologist, otorhinolaryngologist, and any other medical specialists who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases.

 George Laskaris, DDS, MD, PhD
